Get some rest TalleyCat - Sent to UW Medicine |
|
|
As most of you know already, I had to let Talley go last night. She'd had a bad seizure on Thursday night, we took her in on Friday to get a calcium drip for the day then brought her home Friday evening. Saturday and Sunday were really bad for her. She never walked, could barely get up, not sit, wasn't eating or drinking and she'd had multiple seizures and tremors all weekend long. Sunday evening she was getting progressively worse and seemed like her pain had reached its peak. We couldn't pick her up to console her as it would trigger seizures. At that point it was more a neurological problem and was uncontrolled. Bobby and I decided to take her to the emergency vet at about 10pm on Sunday night, we couldn't watch her do this on her own anymore. The vet checked her out, took the regular blood workups and found that her calcium level was 1/3 of what it should have been. That is the lowest they'd seen ever with an animal still being alive. She was very near death. They gave her a really high dose of calcium and it stopped her seizures for a few hours. At about midnight we decided to admit her for 24 hours to see if regular doses of the calcium and the vet monitoring her might help. Monday AM the vet called with the update that she'd had several high doses of calcium and her level went up just a tad and then went back down again. He was so confused and mystified by her condition. All her other vitals checked out okay on the blood workups except the calcium and he couldn't figure out why her body wouldn't let her absorb it. We decided to keep her there longer so they could monitor more. She'd had several more seizures throughout the day. The vet was concerned about permanent brain damage along with her labored breathing and slowed heartrate. In the evening the vet decided to take an xray just to see what her insides looked like. Her stomach was pretty distended so they were concerned with that as well. The xrays showed that she was in worse shape than we thought. Her spine was growing incorrectly with the vertebrae being in weird shapes. Her heart was enlarged, had signs of infection starting in her stomach, fluid in her lungs and skeletal abnormalities in her bones. Her hips and legs weren't growing at a normal pace. At this point there wasn't much else we could do for her except to send her to a specialist which would just prolong her pain and suffering. The calcium doses we'd given her had reached their limit and weren't working. I had to make the decision to put her out of her misery and let her get some rest. It has been a very long time since she's been able to run or jump or even play like a normal kitty. She couldn't get up onto the furniture and you had to be very careful around her or it would freak her out and she'd either run into something and get hurt so she couldn't walk or it would put her into a seizure. Every seizure was worse than the previous, she'd spent every few weeks at the vet. She also wasn't growing at a normal rate. At 8 months she was still the size of a 4-5 month old kitten. She was one of the most loveable, soft and beautiful kittens you'd ever meet.
I went down there to be with her in her last hours. She was so excited to see me. She purred instantly and reached out with her paws. She couldn't move anything but her head and her front feet and I couldn't pick her up because she seized if you moved her back end. I stayed with her for a good hour before the happiness started to wear her down and she started trembling again. We said our goodbyes and then she was put to rest. Afterwards I held her for a long time later and said more goodbyes. I am so sad for her to be gone, she was such a good cat and I was severely attached. But I'm very happy that she is no longer in pain and is forever at rest.
Her vet was very good to her and also very intrigued with her case. He'd consulted several other vets for insight on how to help Talley get better. Nobody had an answer and there was nothing in the medical journals. Because of this he'd asked if I would consent for Talley's remains to be sent to the UW Medical facility for research. They think it is possibly a hyperthyroid issue which is extremely rare especially in cats. I agreed to let her go since it could some day possibly save another kitty. I hope that it does. Tal will then be sent home for a private cremation. The vet commended us on the effort we put forth in trying to help her survive, in that I am grateful. She was loved by many and a favorite at the vet who called her "TalleyCat". I wish there was more we could have done and that she could have graced us for just a little while longer. Talley will be remembered always by many. Goodnight Talladega, you will not be forgotten. Get some rest.
=^..^=

Kenny Chesney Concert |
|
|
Last Saturday was the Kenny Chesney Road and the Radio Tour and we got to go!!! It was an incredible concert. I'd have to say up there as one of my favorites so far. Bobby and I took my dad and his wife Char as a special treat and then a friend from work and his wife came along as well (hi Chad and Amy!!). The weather was PERFECT, about 86 degree's or so but we were in the shaded area so it worked out great.
First to perform was Blaine Larsen, he's a local from Buckley, WA. I wasn't sure if I knew any of his stuff so I picked up his cd before the concert to get a preview and I was pleasantly surprised. He's pretty good. His performance at the concert wasn't bad either. Half way through he put on a Seahawks jersey which I thought was pretty cool of him to represent where he grew up.
Second was Deirks Bentley. What a nut! I've liked his music from the first time I heard it. He sounded just as good live. During the concert he went back and forth getting refills from his personal beer tap. Probably trying to make us all jealous because we had to wait an hour in the beer line to get a beer.
Big N Rich ROCKED the stage!!! I had their latest cd and thought it was just okay but after seeing them perform live I'd have to say the cd is a new favorite. I've listened to it over and over after the concert. They are kick ass performers. So full of energy and all over the place. The little midget dude from their 'Comin to your City' video was there as well. Fire effects and confetti blasted all throughout, it was GREAT! A+ to Big N Rich
Gretchen Wilson was the one I was looking forward to least I'd have to say. Not sure why. I like her music but am not really impressed with her. Until I saw her sing in person!!! OMG! She can belt it out big time! Half way through she said since people don't really believe she can rock it she was gonna sing a few rock tunes. And that she did. She sang Barracuda by Heart and a Led Zepplin song and nailed them both! OMG she's good. And she's got a hot new bod as well, she's really lost some weight, looks great!
And then there was Kenny Chesney................okay here I am, I fainted there for a minute. Kenny kicked that stadiums ASS! Even Bobby was impressed at how entertaining he was. WOW! I really wish I could go back in time to hear it all over again. The whole show, Kenny especially was just fabulous. I think everyone was on their feet for Kenny and singing right along with him. He first appeared out of the middle of the crowd which was really cool Then during one of his songs, "There Goes My Life" he paused when he sang the line "headed out to the West Coast" just for us since it was his first time in Seattle. And then in "Who You'd Be Today" there were video clips at the end after he sings the part "I'll see you again someday" and Dale Earnhardt was in one of those clips. Gave me chills!! He played for quite awhile and then ended with fireworks! Oh it was good!
There was rappin with Cowboy Troy and Alternative rappin with Uncle Cracker, it was all good! And in the crowd of about 50 thousand people I just happened to run into my cousin Chrissy. That was pretty cool too, neither of us knew the other was gonna go. I also spotted another old friend but didn't get to say hi, he couldn't hear me yelling over the extremely loud sound. That was one of the drawbacks I'd have to say is the sound. It was way too amplified. Way too loud. And the lines for the bathroom and beer and food were about an hour each. Lordy!! But overall, I'd go again in a heartbeat!!! 7 hours of all those performers, you betcha! |

Taylor Hicks is Crowned |
|
|
Alright guys, its FINALLY over! And Taylor Hicks has been crowned the winner. What a relief. I'm so glad I didn't have to have nightmares all night which I would have it Kat would have won it. Taylor deserved to be there. He's different and stands out. He's not a true American Idol mold and he won't transform. He will be Taylor and that is what is so great about him.
I can't say I'm disappointed anymore about Chris not winning. Sure, it would have been GREAT for him to be king but after seeing him perform last night, the look on his face and the freedom of his voice - he is where he's meant to be. He's so much happier being free and I'm happy that he is. He's gonna do so much more without American Idol. Well, after the tour ends anyway - WHICH I'M GOING TO!!!! Got my tix on the pre-sale and can't WAIT to go. I'm so hoping they have Chris Daughtry baby t's there!!! If they don't I'm gonna have to just jump on stage and grab his to take home with me.
Chris' performance with Live rocked! That was so perfect and I'm giddy just thinking of all his dreams coming true. Taylors performance with Toni Braxton on the other hand was just awful. Holy Crap! Did they pull her out of rehab or something and she forgot to bring her voice? That should have been a solo performance by Taylor only. And Katherine singing with Meatloaf? Come on!!! That just goes to show what she's got ahead of her. A bunch of stinky, sweaty overweight men to sing with. Yuck! And put your boobs back in your dress girl! Elliott with Mary J Blige?! What the?!!? She sucked too. Elliott was doing so much better on his own, why did she have to interupt? He rocked that U2 song! The rest of the crew was pretty good, it was a great LONG show. My fav I'd have to say were the group performances, its just a preview of what I get to see live. Ah I just can't wait!!!! Oh, can't forget Ace, he actually did really well too. I'm not too much of an Ace fan but I'd have to say that watching him last night might just turn me around. I'd give his album a try.
Chris and Taylor, I'll see you September 2nd at the Tacoma Dome!!

Grey's Season Finale |
|
|
The Grey's Anatomy Season Finale was by FAR the best episode of the shows two year run! I had to watch it twice in a row it was so good!
Denny died, this was not expected and was a very sad farwell. Izzy was destroyed, devasted!! She so far as quit in her quest to become a surgeon. At least that is where they left at the end of the show. Things could change quickly next season after she's had time to reflect. Realistically I think she is right though, she has way too much human emotion to be a surgeon. - Also, Baily actually called her by her first name when she was walking off to try to reach out and not let her make a rash decision, that was also touching. I love Baily!!! - And Alex carrying Izzy off Denny's bed when she needed to leave. Alex DOES have a heart after all!
Yang abandoned Burke when he most needed her. That was really hard to watch. But in the end after watching what Izzy had to go through she stepped up and stepped back into his life with just a touch of a hand. That was so touching and I can't see how that develops.
George telling Callie to give him time to mean it, the part where he can't tell her he loves her yet. Priceless! Why can't all men just be that upfront and forward and honest? George is awesome! And when Callie walked in on McDreamy and Meredith after they went at it (finally), that was priceless as well!!! She's actually trying to be a "part of the family".
Now seriously, seriously, what is going to happen between the Finn/Meridith/Derrick/Addison triangle? It ended almost as it did last year. They seriously left us hanging. One one hand we LOVE Finn for Meredith, or maybe we just love Finn. On the other hand we've always loved Derrick. Such a toss up! I for sure wouldn't want to be Meredith. And the very last scene of the show you see both Finn and Derrick look at Meredith and you can tell by the look on Finn's face that his heart is about to break because he knows that there is a decision to be made. Both men look at Meredith and say the same word, "Meredith?". Thats the end. The show was left in Merediths hands and once again she leaves us hanging, until next season.....Seriously! |
